Paddl Warrior of the Month: Arpa Barua

July 06, 2016
By Robelen Bajar

Each month the Paddl team highlights one of our incredible Students and the experiences they’ve gathered on their journey.

From the moment the CareerLounge team met Arpa, they knew she was a force to be reckoned with. As the very first successful Paddl applicant to land a job, Arpa has had plenty of ground to break. But, armed with dedication (early to every shift), a brilliant smile and the ability to crush all goals she’s set, Arpa has proved she’s up for the challenge!

We spoke to Arpa about her first days at CareerLounge, what she does in her spare time and what she’s learned from her experiences so far.

What are you currently studying?

I’m studying a Bachelor of Information Technology at Deakin University. I’m in my second year now, majoring in Mobile Application Development.

How did you find out about Paddl and why did you sign up?

I found out about Paddl through my University. I got an email from the university one day that informed me about CareerLounge and Paddl. I got to know how Paddl was built with the vision to help students get casual work in their course related industries so that they gain relevant experience and, as a student, I know how crucial it is for us to have experience in our course related fields in order to get a good job after graduation. So I signed up to Paddl right away through the link provided in the email and the rest is history!

What was your first day like at CareerLounge?

My first day at CareerLounge was pretty exciting. My role as a Telemarketer involves calling prospective employers and explaining to them how Paddl is beneficial to them and to students.

I have never worked as a telemarketer before so I was very excited and nervous at the same time. But at the end of the day I was happy with my first day as a telemarketer at CareerLounge. It was a great learning experience.

What have you learnt working at CareerLounge so far?

By working at CareerLounge I have learnt how to communicate with different people in a professional manner. I have to make lots of calls everyday at work and different people react differently to my call. It’s been very interesting learning how to handle the various situations.

What do you do outside work and study?

My favourite thing to do is wind down with TV shows and movies. I could probably spend a whole day just watching them! I also like to further my learning - currently I’m into Web Development.

What do you like most about Paddl?

I like the fact that Paddl is committed to help students and graduates find opportunities related to their fields of study. Paddl helps students gain relevant experience in their industries, which is very important to stand out in the competitive graduate job market.

What would you say to other students who might be thinking of joining Paddl?

I would highly encourage other students to join Paddl! There are going to be many opportunities in Paddl that would be relevant to their courses and qualifications, both paid and unpaid. Plus, it’s not just about getting a job; they will also have the chance to get relevant experience, which is often hard to find! This is what makes Paddl is very helpful for students!
